Who Qualifies For A Bursary Or Student Loan From NSFAS?



The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has formally opened the 2025 application system.

Applications are actually open and can close on 15 December 2024.

*** Who qualifies for NSFAS funding

To qualify for NSFAS funding, an applicant should satisfy the following criteria:

• Be considered a South African citizen or copyright who comes from a home which has a combined gross house income that does not exceed R350 000 per annum.

• Individuals with disabilities qualify if their combined domestic revenue won't exceed R600 000 per annum.

• SASSA recipients automatically qualify for funding and need not submit any evidence of earnings.

*** Loan Scheme for the Missing Middle

The NSFAS Loan Scheme for the missing middle is open up to all South African citizens and permanent residents from households with combined R350 000 and R600 000 for each annum.

Applicants are reminded to offer the proper Id Doc numbers, names, and surname, as mirrored in their South African ID.

NSFAS only funds individuals who click here are learning or plan to research in a general public university or TVET college in South Africa.

All students who wish to study in any of the public universities and TVET colleges should apply timeously and not to wait until the last day.

Learners do not have to wait for matric results to apply for NSFAS. They should apply now and avoid delays in the processing of their application.
